Ovechkin scores, Russia beats Finland

Earlier today, Russia battled it out against Finland in the IIHF World Championship Semifinals. Although the Finns were the first to strike, Russia dominated the rest of the game, winning 6-2. Alex Ovechkin scored his second goal in as many games by evading the Finnish defense and shooting the puck over Petri Vehanen’s shoulder. Evgeni Malkin brought the hats of Russian fans to the ice with his 3 goal performance. Denis Kokarev and Sergei Shirokov were the other Russian goal scorers today. Team Russia will have to wait to see who they will play Slovakia in the gold medal game tomorrow at 12:15 EST.
